Extended general interfaces: Mori–Tanaka homogenization and average fields

A well-established methodology to capture interphases in heterogeneous materials is replace them by a zero-thickness interface model. Commonly accepted models intuitively assume that satisfy the angular momentum balance, interfaces must coincide with mid-layer of their corresponding interphases. Recently, via adopting weighted averages, an extended general model has been developed allows for arbitrary positions while fulfilling balance. This manuscript incorporates this novel into Mori–Tanaka method within framework homogenization. Analytical solutions are determine effective properties as well average local fields fiber-reinforced and particle-reinforced composites. Computational simulations using finite element (FEM) carried out compare analytical solutions. Through set numerical examples, significance position on overall response highlighted. Our clarifies various ambiguous observations originating from trivial assumption restricting mid-plane. One advantage current it covers both elastic cohesive at its limits therefore widely applicable regardless type.
